programme

“The mulberry trees of Morias in Fougaro’s Plaza”
trees, nature games, environment, ecology, fairy tales, dramatisation
Fun and learning out in the open, by a row of mulberry trees at Fougaro’s plaza. As the seasons succeed one another we observe the trees and their surroundings —fallen leaves, bare branches, new tender foliage in the spring— and we learn by playing in the yard!

Why was the Peloponnese also called Morias? What is sericulture, and how do you think humans discovered silk? How did silk get to Europe? The children engage in theatrical improvisations around these subjects, while others produce art with the gifts of nature around them: leaves, twigs, earth…

As you go, don’t forget to collect your young tree! You’ll need to plant it in your schoolyard and take care of it!

* The programme takes place in outdoor/semi-outdoor areas, so you must see to it that the children are suitably dressed for the time of year. There is no bad weather… there is unseasonal dressing!
Duration 75΄

Recommended and adapted for nursery school, primary school and junior high school classes.

“Traces and Imprints”
Starting from the ΝOW WOMEN project at FOUGARO, the students will locate the works of two major Greek printmakers, Vasso Katraki and Dimitra Siaterli, and a lovable cat on a linotype from 1925. This is a chance to experiment with a great branch of visual art: printmaking!
We shall deal with the drawing and the composition of the subject we wish to depict, and how we can render it using this specific technique.
Making use of the many possibilities afforded by this form of expression, we shall create prints with the monotype technique and arrive at a special and unique outcome.
The children develop their skills in drawing and using tools and promote a spirit of collaboration through a pleasant and creative process.
Duration 75΄

Hair of grass!
narration, nature, recycling, ecology, handicraft
Inspired by Ursula Wölfel’s ‘Green Hair’ story, young schoolchildren make little grass-head  figures! They come into contact with earth and seeds, and through their special creation they learn about the time needed for plants to grow!

“Dreams of sounds, scents, textures, tastes”
Braille reading system, Louis Braille, new technologies, empathy
In this programme the children learn about the alternative ways in which the blind perceive the world and about the Braille system of reading. Using examples from daily life, a wonderful fairy tale describes the colours and presents other sensory games to promote an understanding of people with visual impairments and disabilities.

“Dionysios Solomos… two flames…”
Dionysios Solomos, Manolis Haros, poetry, Greek language
There are two flames… one in the mind, one in the heart… and they spring from the Earth to the sky… to paint images and passions. Starting from the bicentenary of the National Anthem and the artworks of Manolis Haros which bring to life the Dialogue of Solomos, the students acquaint themselves with the magic of poetry and the power of visual art. The printed word converses in a special, playful way with the paintings of Manolis Haros, while the children get to know the work of our national poet.

The tiger in the Library
Alki Zei, magnetic board, game of memory & imagination
In the aftermath of the Alki Zei Literary Year and starting from her book The tiger in the shop window, the children embark on the process of rearranging excerpts from the book into a literary jigsaw puzzle and making their own story. They also learn some unknown aspects of her life, accompanied by photographic material. The personality of ALki Zei inspires us to learn, discuss and create.
