Talk to me

by Marina Gioti, from Dioptra Books
children's book presentation
Saturday 9 November 2024 | 12.00 noon @KIDS' LIBRARY

FOUGARO ARTCENTER, the 3rd Kindergarten of Nafplio, the 6th Primary School of Nafplio and Dioptra Books invite you to a fun interactive book party on Saturday 9 November at 12:00 to …talk about Talk to me, the latest children's book by Marina Gioti, and shake off everything that weighs us down.

AN had always been a girl full of smiles. One day she found a pebble in the street and took it with her. Over time the pebble grew heavier and heavier and she got tired, but she did not know how to tell others about it. Just then she met a great new friend who helped her to …talk about what weighed her down. Thus AN came to see that our greatest burdens grow lighter when we share them with those who love, see and understand us. And if we can find a way to make them useful, they bear fruit that help the others as well.

A book about mental empowerment and the handling of negative feelings that children hoard, such as stress, sorrow and fear, but also about the power of friendship.

"The first part of resilience in mental health is being able to talk about it."
Dr. Deborah Gilboa

About the book
Recognising and handling the emotions of children,
especially in this post-COVID era, is a major concern for parents, teachers, child psychologists and carers. Dealing with children's stress is now a weighty matter as it is observed increasingly frequently at increasingly younger ages, at the same time being hard to be identified and acknowledged as such by the children themselves. Moreover, the use of social media and the internet already since an early age, with the mental and emotional involvement it entails, as well as the phenomenon of bullying at school, seem to be directly related with the emergence of persistently high levels of stress among children and teenagers.
All this is exacerbated by their difficulty in talking about the things they may be experiencing and sharing their emotions and concerns with friends or adults from their close environment.
Writer and illustrator Marina Gioti, after the great success of her books The island of Never-NeverThe Fluffs of Happiness and the awarded Yeti: the power of yet, which have been loved by thousands of young readers, comes back with a new, eagerly-awaited children's book on mental empowerment. In her latest allegorical illustrated story she deals with those hard emotions that grow increasingly heavier the more we keep them inside us, and shows the importance of talking about them and about friendship.
