book presentation
Wednesday 3 April | 6.30 pm @LIBRARY

FOUGARO ARTCENTER, the Philologists’ Society of Argolis and Epikentro Press have organised for Wednesday 3 April at 18.30 at Fougaro’s LIBRARY an event with Dr Raymond Alvanos, who teaches at the postgraduate programme of Public History of the Greek Open University, on “The 1940s and the post-civil war of memory”.
Raymond Alvanos shall outline the historical context of the inter-war years and the 1940s with the aid of some very interesting photos of the time. He shall present the key historical events in Greece and abroad, analyse the ideological camps of those involved and explains the processes that forged the political identities in the turbulent ’40s. Moreover, he shall explain how the tough legacy of the Civil War relates to the present time and present the conflicting memories that correspond to conflicting political identities.

The lecture will follow the structure of his recent book on “The Greek civil war; memories at war and contemporary political identities”, which is based on his own guided tours of the National Reconciliation  Park on Mt Grammos and his interaction with visitors. An excerpt from the book’s preface was used in the national graduation exams for General High Schools in June 2022. During the event, the audience will be able to discuss their views and questions with the professor.

The speaker will be introduced by Mr Nikolaos Boubaris on behalf of the Philologists’ Society of Argolis.
