Evangelia Andritsanou

"Antigone – A daughter, a country"
Book presentation
Saturday 8 April 2023 7pm

On Saturday 8 April 2023 at 19.00, the LIBRARY of FOUGARO ARTCENTER hosts the presentation of a poetry collection by Evangelia Andritsanou.

FOUGARO, the Argolis Union of Writers and Agra Press invite you to the presentation of Antigone – a daughter, a country, the new poetry collection by Evangelia Andritsanou.

In her third book, Evangelia Andritsanou places the female sex at the core, reflecting through the figure of Antigone and expressing her thoughts through poetry. Ancient tragic poetry is directly linked to contemporary poetry, while the ancient heroine comes close to the woman of today through their shared points, passion, remorse and other thoughts that reverberate across time. Past and present are conveyed through the eyes of two women fused into one.

Discussing the book are:

Yorgos Kondis (Sociologist-educator); Angeliki Spyropoulou (Professor, Dept of Theatre Studies, University of the Pelopnnese); Yiannis Tsiodras (Historian, Director of Fougaro Library); Kalliopi Kalpodimou (Philologist, Argolis Music School); Sophia Galani (Philologist)

The event is to close with three musical pieces performed by:

Maggie Johnston: flute

Michalis Kokkinopoulos: guitar

From the back cover:

Antigone, the ancient daughter of myth, lies in a prison cell for having wished to bury her brother. In the present time, another daughter is enclosed in the prison of inertia. Each in their own way, they are trying to pin their position on the map of the world—a fluid map, constantly redrawn by the struggle to prevail. The country is sick, and so is the family. Desire, devotion and freedom keep losing ground to division, corruption, debasement. A woman who loves is a shipwrecked person. Can the heroic paradigm serve her as a compass in today’s world?
