Antonis Staveris
FOUGARO Gallery Nafplion, in collaboration with Elissavet Sakareli, presents Antonis Staveris' work for the first time in Nafplion. The exhibition opens on Saturday June 17th and lasts until Sunday September 3rd. The paintings of the exhibition cover works of the last six years.
Starting from luminous landscapes of Piraeus and Perama, and then passing through nocturnal Berlin, the artist finally "visits" both urban and non-urban Attica settings, which are depicted here in his unique personal neo-expressionistic manner. Electric skies and static charged horizons, luminous clumps, lush vegetation and minor details are analyzed and schematically re-invented, abstractly articulated, whilst the human figure always gives meaning to the scenes through its presence or its absence.
Part of the work on show started in 2016 and was produced specifically for the FOUGARO exhibition. It comprises stunning watercolors of plant compositions in various sizes. Although, at first glance, these paintings make reference to still lives with plants, Staveris, playing with light and colors, increases the tension into a "low-key" genre. Bold combinations of various "textures", related but unexpected color nuances, as well as variations in scales and sizes, turn these paintings into extremely interesting plant "portraits"!
In parallel with the exhibition's opening, FOUGARO also inaugurates a shop inside the Gallery, where visitors will be able to find original works, prints, various art objects, exhibitions' catalogues, editions and memorabilia by Greek and foreign artists.
