pottery workshop
Starting from the artists and the works of the NOW WOMEN exhibition, FOUGARO ARTCENTER organises a series of workshops for children and teenagers.
The children observe the work and find inspiration in it. They knead, press and carve the clay. They experiment with the colours and textures of various materials such as wood, fabric or straw. They learn some basic pottery techniques and create their own works of art.
Each subject area will be presented to different age groups — to children 3 to 5, children 6 to 12, and teenagers— in self-contained workshops.
During the workshops the children will work on both individual and collective projects.
The aim of these workshops is to get children to explore the potential of clay, cultivate their senses and develop their fine motor skills and their artistic expression. The group activities are meant to promote the children’s collaborative spirit and collective expression.

Next Sundays for self-contained workshops in 2023:
26 November & 17 December
In the October workshop we shall study the works Plaid by Artemis Alcalay and Karakter by Liesbeth Pallesen and express the thoughts and sentiments they trigger in us. We shall discuss the different techniques and materials used by the artists. Starting from these two works, we shall deal with the concept of “house”.
What is a house?
How did people build their houses in other times and different cultures?
Why did people build miniatures of houses in antiquity?
The children will prepare a mix of mud and straw, discover the different textures and play using their senses. Next they shall build their own miniature houses out of straw mud. The children shall deal with the challenge of the soft, pliable material and the need to make their work sturdy.
Through the creative process they will imagine and achieve the kind of utility they want to give to their creation.
At the end of the class, the participants will take their works back home.

Terratakia is a team that develops and delivers educational programmes and art workshops for children and teenagers. Myths and fairy tales, topics from archeology, art history, modern culture, the environment and everyday life become a source of inspiration and creation to us. Our aim is to get children to explore, in an experiential way, various aspects of culture through stories, interactive games and creative workshops.
