Little birds of hope

On Saturday 29 November 2014, the ΑrtShop opens the solo exhibition "Little birds of hope" by Christina Darra.

The exhibition, which will run through 11 January, comprises works with pencil, aquarelle, oil and mixed media, papier mâché objects and masks, glass jewellery and scarves. All the works in the show are about birds as symbols of hope, as the artist herself notes:

"Our hopes are like little birds. Winged and colourful, they come and go, nibble at a seed, tweet, splash around puddles, defy gravity. As beautiful, lightweight and vulnerable as our hopes. Hope is no more than an irrational conviction that things will go well. They may do so or not; what matters is to keep having this unfounded certainty and keep tearing down dead ends. Just like birds… when they run out of ground, there is always the air. If you've only learnt to walk, it's time you learned to fly, too."

The varied and colourful world of Darra is open to multiple readings. Her works exude sensibility and a sense of humour, sometimes light-hearted and sometimes sharp, that often reveals unseen aspects of our everyday reality.

With "Little birds of hope", the ArtShop opens a new cycle of exhibitions with works by visual artists and designers of jewellery and objects.
