And now, it's Medea talking to you

Fougaro welcomes Pat Kiout Productions and the staging of "And now, it's Medea talking to you" on Thursday 29 at 18.00 and on Friday 30 May 2025 at 20.00 in Space 9. The play combines Medea's letter to Jason from the twelfth poem in Ovid's Heroides and the tragedy of Euripides.
Medea's emotions and story unfold through a torrent of memories and pain. Is Medea really the merciless child killer she is purported to be—or a victim of circumstances and her surroundings? The team of Pat Kiout gives the stand to Medea, in an ode to repressed and abused femininity.

For the first time a theatrical team approaches the myth of Medea not through the eyes of Euripides as Jason's wicked wife and killer of her children but as a woman uprooted from her land who tries to do everything to secure a man's success and happiness. Medea is the dynamic woman behind a legend, the true heroine in the Argonauts' myth who is all too often dismissed as a violent and destructive witch. The Pat Kiout team's reworking of Ovid's text, which stresses Medea's psychological makeup and the influence of Jason and his abuse of her, presents a new heroine who expresses her entire inner world openly and unreservedly. Also, the play adopts and follows the lesser-known version of the myth of Medea's sons being killed not by her but by the Corinthians, in yet another act of xenophobia and society's rejection of a 'barbarian' woman.

Our team started creating in 2024 in the context of the class on "Directing III: the theatre of invention" by professor Anna Tsichli. Initially comprising Ariadne Spiliopoulou and Evelina Papadimitriou as a directing duo, the team was eventually joined by another two members, Nike Damaskinou and Dione Zerva.
