Lending a hand

narrative fairy tale performance
in collaboration with Cerebral Palsy Greece / Open Door
Saturday 1 June 2024 at 6 pm | GARDEN KIOSK

On Saturday 1 June 2024 at 6 pm at the GARDEN KIOSK, Fougaro welcomes

Cerebral Palsy Greece / Open Door for a presentation of the fairy tale Lend a Hand, in collaboration with the students of Class C2 of the 2nd Primary School of Nafplio. The event is supported by the MOTODYNAMICS Group and MAXIMA INSURANCE.

The original English book, Lend a Hand by David Ramsbottom & Samuel Wilson, was written to help Ophelia, a little girl with cerebral palsy. The message of the book can be summed up in a single phrase: disabled people offer us much more than we offer them.

The Greek translation by Emmanuella Nikolaidou was published by Eleftheroudakis Press and all proceeds from its sales go towards the aims of Open Door. As with all good stories, this one hides another story behind it.

We’ll be expecting you for a performance of the fairy tale which involves narration, stage action and singing from the little choir of Open Door

Cerebral Palsy Greece / Open Door

A registered non-profit benevolent society, Cerebral Palsy Greece / Open Door was founded in 1972 to provide a place under the sun for cerebral palsy sufferers in Greece.
Its “Open Door” Centre of Education and Rehabilitation provides on a daily basis and free of charge a wide range of services and programmes for the training, rehabilitation, entertainment and social inclusion of 240 children, teenagers and adults with cerebral palsy.
One of the key principles of Cerebral Palsy Greece / Open Door is that education, cultivation and art are fundamental to the lives of all people. It has therefore been a pioneer in developing programmes aimed at cultural advancement and has organised a host of cultural actions over the years.
It has been awarded twice by the Academy of Athens for its “multifaceted social and welfare contributions”, and by the President of the Hellenic Republic with the Gold Cross of the Order of Beneficence. On March 7, 2024 it was also awarded by the Parnassos Literary Society.
It is the organizer for Greece of the International Cerebral Palsy Society (ICPS), a member of the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD), and a member of “Together for Chldren” and “Diktyo”.
