Summer Day Camp @FOUGARO 2024
Creativity
Action
Play
and, of course, Art!
Refreshed more than ever before, this year’s programme comes with new ideas and activities!
Eight thematic weeks, starting from Monday 17 June
the children meet again at FOUGARO!
Exploration and handcrafting games, art workshops, music and motion workshops, theatrical play, outdoor teams and play in the gardens, educational visits and many more cool and creative pursuits for our beloved kids! Between activities, the children rest in FOUGARO’s gardens and plaza. They are guided by our educators to tend the vegetable garden, whose produce they get to taste at the brunch provided by FOUGARO, together with freshly-pressed orange juice!
All of Fougaro’s facilities —gardens, patios, workshops, libraries— will be once again the canvas on which we shall ‘embroider’ clever and creative stories and interactive games full of fun, imagination and the expertise of Fougaro’s educators!
See you there !!!
Schedule of thematic weeks
17/6 - 21/6 “Ships in the Aegean” - inspired by the art of David Webber
This week we get to know the art of David Webber, a self-taught folk artist and naturalized Greek. His works around the facilities of FOUGARO include painting on canvas and wood as well as objects and constructions in the artist’s trademark idiom in which vivid colours, elements of nature and folk motifs combine and converse with rhythm and imagination, often floating or dancing in a universe of their own.
24/6 - 28/6 “Rock, pencil, scissors, paper” - Paper Week
This week we discover the little-known world of paper; we shall experiment with it, make our own paper, play with it and build paper artworks.
1/7 - 5/7 “Stop and look” - Nature & Ecology Week
Nature is our home. An endangered home. With a few minor changes, all of us can save it. How can we reuse waste materials instead of discarding them? Can an old tin can become my new reading lamp? How can I build a musical instrument with plastic bottle caps? This week we shall get to know the concept of reuse and its importance in conserving natural resources.
8/7 - 12/7 “Yannis Pappas / In search of Alexander” - inspired by the art of Yannis Pappas
On the occasion of the exhibition “Yannis Pappas / In search of Alexander”, this week we shall follow the creative process behind a sculptural masterpiece which took 32 years to complete. Through drawings, studies and models, photographs and other documentary evidence from the Yannis Pappas Studio, the children will get a taste of the process of creating a work of art.
15/7 - 19/7 “Let us mend things”- Workmanship Week
This week the children get to know and use various materials and tools to byuild, mend and repair, experiment. The aim is to gain an appreciation of the notion and the value of self-sufficiency.
22/7 - 26/7 “Young Architect” - Week dedicated to Architecture
How hard is it for one to build one’s own house? What materials should be used? This week the children get to know some major architects and architectural projects and develop their own architectural creations.
29/7 - 2/8 Experiments & Discoveries
This week we shall get to know some great figures whose experiments and discoveries changed the world. We’ll have fun with experiments and we’ll travel into the world of major discoveries.
5/8 - 9/8 “Children of the world” - Accepting difference
Are the toys and games of Eskimos anything like those of the Japanese? What do the children eat in Africa, and what in America? What are the bedtime stories with which children go to sleep in China, and what in Albania? Hmm… let’s find out!
In a safe setting amidst gardens, patios, fully equipped workshops and libraries, through experiential art and educational activities, we find inspiration and awaken the creative spirit within us!
On selected dates, all groups of children will be taken on outings to nearby archaeological sites and beaches, after consultation with the parents.
