"Zakros" by Filippos Koutsaftis
On Saturday 13 April at 7 pm, FOUGARO ARTCENTER and the Argolis Ephorate of Antiquities welcome Filippos Koutsaftis for the screening of his awarded film Zakros. Following its world premiere at the Louvre in Paris and its participation in the International Competition of the 25thThessaloniki Documentary Festival, Zakros is screened in Nafplio for the first time.
Zakros, a dot on the map of eastern Crete, a threshold turned towards Cyprus, Asia Minor and Egypt, a small town with a major Minoan palace, was abandoned abruptly and since then remained tenderly protected for centuries by the dust of time. It was uncovered in 1961 through excavations by the inspired archaeologist Nikolaos Platon. The film covers a tour of over three decades around the historical sites and the archaeological monuments of Europe’s first major civilisation. There we meet also the Zakros of today, the people and their daily life; the Cretans who follow, quietly and modestly, the same life cycles as their Minoan ancestors, contemplating the same mountains, the same sea under the same cluster of stars.
Zakros was awarded at the 11th Chania Festival in the ‘Feature-length Greek documentary’ category, at the 6th Cyprus Archaeological, Ethnographic & Historical Film Festival with the festival’s Special Award and at the 9th Docfest of Chalkida as best film.
FOUGARO ARTCENTER was a sponsor of the film Zakros.
The screening will be introduced by Dr Alkistis Papadimitriou, head of the Argolis Ephorate of Antiquities
