“At the Theatre”

FOUGARO ARTCENTER welcomes Olia Lazaridou and her new production “At the Theatre”, which premieres on April 28, 2026 and is aimed at audiences of all ages. Written by Thouli Staikou, is a work that speaks about the magic and art of theatre in an experiential and direct way. The set is designed by Angelos Mendis, the music is composed  by Nikos Veliotis, and movement direction is by Marianna Kavalieratou. Cast (in alphabetical order): Spyros Detsikas, Manos Karatzogiannis, and Leda Koutsodaskalou.

This is an entertaining, allegorical fairy tale for both adults and children —especially for those who wish to discover “what, after all, is theatre, this mysterious art?”

“[…] Good night, dawn is breaking. People put on their faces.”

A skeptical spectator resists the magic of theatre, until he himself becomes entangled in its web, condemned to participate on stage in the action!

Director’s Note by Olia Lazaridou

“This performance attempts to answer the fundamental —though essentially unanswerable —question “what is theatre?”, speaking about the unique form that words, silence, time, and space take within it. About the liberating experience of play, imitation, transformation, and action.

And above all, about our need to experience joy! Because, ultimately, in theatre everything may happen ‘as if it were not real’, yet it can also help us come closer to truth. A lie made of truths or a truth made of lies? —it makes no difference. It does us good!”

FOUGARO ARTCENTER inaugurates, with this new production, a new tradition for the current theatre season, presenting Sunday matinée performances in the Gallery (start time: 12:00 pm), aiming to encourage families to attend theatre earlier in the day.

Alongside this enriched programme for the general public, the company will also present 5 performances specifically for schools in the Argolis region. Thus, after “Theophilos sold!” (presented at FOUGARO in March 2024), children will once again have the opportunity to attend a theatrical performance with both an entertaining and educational character. In the same context, a discussion with the students will follow the performance. Olia Lazaridou, Thouli Staikou (who wrote the text and has extensive experience in theatre for children and adolescents), as well as the actors, will talk with the children about the art of theatre and its secrets.
