Chalkida Art Workshop – 35 years
A tribute exhibition with works by children and teenagers
On the occasion of the 35 years of operation of the Chalkida Art Workshop, children's artworks addressed to all ages are to travel for the first time from Chalkida to Nafplio and FOUGARO THE GALLERY.
At the same time, workshops for children conducted by the Workshop's experienced instructors will be held every Saturday and Sunday, plus school visits and guided tours on weekdays.
As noted by the Workshop's president Ms Harikleia Mytara, "Through Art with a capital 'A', what is most important is for children to express their hopes and fears and gain a deeper knowledge of the world around them".
Led by the hopes of children, the exhibition - tribute at FOUGARO THE GALLERY comprises works of painting, sculpture, paper sculpture, pottery, stage design, printmaking, photography, constructions, comic strips and works from recycled materials.
You will see amazing things! Pictures with galaxies of colours and pins, "suitcases" made of various materials, inspired by the creations of Alexis Akrithakis, large-scale constructions like the fairytale forest with colourful trees and happy animals, a group construction-tribute to Picasso's Guernica, Cubist portraits in relief, photograms, stage and costume designs!
A stall with art objects for sale will operate within the exhibition to support the work of the Chalkida Art Workshop.
Chalkida Art Workshop
In 1978, Dimitris and Harikleia Mytara, given that they are both artists with a great love for Art, helped start what was a pioneering project in Dimitris's native Chalkida. The Art Workshop has carried out important cultural work to this day.
The organisation has been awarded on numerous occasions. most notably by the Academy of Athens in 1994 for the work of president Harikleia Mytara and her associates in the field of art education. The same year, the Art Workshop participated in the Melina Programme of the Ministry of Culture with Ms Mytara and its art instructors. There have been several exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including Millesgarden, Stockholm in 1998 and Florence's Palazzo Vecchio in 2001, while the Workshop's children have taken part in many international painting contests, often coming first.
The organisation continues on its dynamic course of exhibitions and workshops with the aid of distinguished academics such as the former dean of the Athens School of Fine Arts Marios Spiliopoulos, deputy dean Angelos Antonopoulos, ASFA teachers Lakis Patraskidis, Titika Doukoumetzidi -Salla, Michalis Manousakis, Pantelis Chandris and other eminent artists like Teta Antoniou, Katia Varvaki, Sophia Karaleka, Yannis Adamakos, Sotiris lampadaridis, Frosso Malea, Voula Gounela, Emilia Badouna, Eleni Moraiti, Stamatis Zannos, Pantelis Tsavalos, Michalis Doukoumetzakis, Thanassis Moutsopoulos, et al.
