Exhibition
Kosmas Lilikakis—following his highly successful exhibition HOT LIGHT BOXES (2018)—returns once again to FOUGARO ARTCENTER with a new exhibition titled SEQUEL COME BACK!, a playful title that introduces a new series of works, including light boxes. The artist makes a dynamic comeback to a familiar space, continuing to develop his distinctive visual language, moving between painting, sculpture, and a scenographic perception of space, with works that function as microcosms of intense narrative and theatricality.
Light boxes and complex visual installations, like small luminous stages dynamically frozen in time, compose paradoxical and captivating worlds, where playfulness, imagination, and a poetic, ironic language prevail. The use of everyday—“humble”—materials remains central to his process, transforming the familiar into something unexpected and poetic. Lilikakis’ visual language draws from a childlike gaze, comics, and popular imagery, while he remains powerfully present, attempting a critical commentary on contemporary reality.
Through these new compositions, he revisits—differently, yet always recognizably—the themes that run throughout his work: power, consumerism, social pressure, violence, and the environmental crisis, while nature functions as his main axis (a source of inspiration as well as a field of lived experience). This is his language, the symbols he uses in the poetic process of visual composition.
Kosmas Lilikakis, an artist based in Chania (Crete), belongs to those exceptional cases whose work cannot easily be confined to a single style or medium. Just as… a murderer… always… returns… to the scene of the crime, so too does he continually make a luminous COME BACK to his hybrid artistic universe, where personal narrative meets social sensitivity and materiality interacts with imagination, inviting the viewer into an experience that is both familiar and subversive.
