mind workshops | Theatre Pedagogy & AI
With the beginning of the new school year, FOUGARO ARTCENTER hosts a series of eight weekly experiential workshops for Educators, connecting Theatre Pedagogy and Theatre in Education techniques with contemporary Artificial Intelligence tools.
- Can Artificial Intelligence serve as a starting point for creative storytelling, role-playing, improvisation and other Theatre Pedagogy activities in the classroom?
- How can a digital idea be transformed into a story, character, dialogue and collective experiential activity?
The aim of the series is for participants to become familiar with, experiment with and creatively use Artificial Intelligence tools in the design of Theatre Pedagogy activities, with the Primary School as the main field of application and the possibility of adapting them to other educational levels.
Artificial Intelligence is approached as a supportive tool that can provide stimuli for the creation of stories, characters, dialogues, images and educational scenarios. These stimuli will be explored through the body, voice, improvisation, role-playing and group collaboration.
No previous experience with Artificial Intelligence tools is required. The workshops will begin with simple and easy-to-use applications and will gradually develop into more complex creative compositions.
The workshops are implemented as part of Katerina Dima’s postdoctoral research at the Department of Early Childhood Education,Faculty of Education, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, under the supervision of Associate Professor Antonis Lenakakis, and are offered free of charge, thanks to the generous support of FOUGARO ARTCENTER.
Workshop Structure
Each two-hour session includes:
- 30 minutes of a short presentation, demonstration and guided trial of Artificial Intelligence tools on the participants’ laptops.
- 90 minutes of an experiential Theatre Pedagogy workshop, during which the digital material will be used as a stimulus for storytelling, role-playing, improvisation, physical expression and collaborative creation.
The activities will have the Primary School as their main field of application, with the possibility of adapting them to different age groups, educational levels and subject areas. During the final sessions, participants will design their own short Theatre Pedagogy scenarios, combining Theatre in Education techniques with Artificial Intelligence tools.
Who is it for?
The series is primarily addressed to Primary School educators of all specialisms, who wish to enrich their teaching practice through Theatre Pedagogy, Theatre in Education techniques, creative expression and contemporary technology. If places remain available, educators from Preschool and Secondary Education will also be able to participate.
Available places | 25
As this is a cohesive workshop and research series, consistent participation in all eight in-person sessions is required.
Participants will be asked to complete short questionnaires before and after the completion of the programme. During the first session, they will receive detailed information about the research process, data management and their consent to participate in the research.
