Self-Protection Seminar | From Spectator… to VOLUNTEER

Hellenic Rescue Team of Argolis
Sunday, 18 October 2026 | 11 am | SPACE9

The Hellenic Rescue Team invites everyone who wishes to learn, train, prepare and get to know the world of volunteer rescue up close to participate in the Self-Protection Seminar.

Self-protection is not someone else’s responsibility.

It is knowledge that we all need.
It is preparedness that can protect us and the people around us.
And it is knowledge that, at the critical moment, can make a difference.

The Hellenic Rescue Team invites you to take the first step.

Learn. Prepare. Act.

The Hellenic Rescue Team of Argolis opens the new training year with a Self-Protection Seminar and the start of the Basic Rescue Training School 2026–2027. The Seminar is held with the kind support of FOUGARO ARTCENTER.

The work of the Hellenic Rescue Team of Argolis is not limited to operations. It includes the training and continuous practical training of volunteers, search and rescue, wildfire response and fire watch, medical support, as well as social and humanitarian actions.

Operational preparedness begins long before the moment of need. It begins with training. It is precisely this need for knowledge and preparation that the 18 October 2026 event seeks to serve.

A seminar that concerns us all

As part of the Self-Protection Seminar, participants will have the opportunity to learn about basic prevention and self-protection measures against natural disasters, with emphasis on three situations that may affect anyone’s everyday life:

—Floods

—Fires

—Earthquakes

At the same time, training will be provided in basic first aid, with a practical approach to incidents such as:

—Treatment of bleeding

—Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

—Choking caused by a foreign body

These are not only skills for people interested in becoming volunteer rescuers. They concern every citizen, as an emergency can happen anywhere and at any time: at home, at the workplace, on the road, on holiday or next to someone close to us.

Start of the Basic Rescue Training School 2026–2027

The Seminar will also mark the official start of the Basic Rescue Training School of the Hellenic Rescue Team of Argolis for the 2026–2027 training period.

Those interested will have the opportunity to get to know the H.R.T. up close, its philosophy of volunteering, the fields in which it is active and the importance of organised training and teamwork.

For those who wish to take the next step, the Basic Rescue Training School can be the starting point of a journey of knowledge, contribution and active participation in society.

You do not need to have previous experience.
You do not need to be a rescuer.
You only need the willingness to learn and contribute.

About the Hellenic Rescue Team of Argolis

The Hellenic Rescue Team of Argolis was founded in 2006 and is registered in the Registers of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, Voluntary Non-Governmental Organisations and Social Care Organisations. It consists of more than 80 trained and certified members, who voluntarily offer their services to society and the State.

Its activities cover a wide range of operational and social fields.

The Mountain Rescue Department, the oldest department of the H.R.T., participates in search and rescue operations in mountainous environments, drawing on the experience and expertise of volunteers who know the mountains and their particular demands.

The Water Rescue Department, with experienced divers, speedboat operators, sailors, lifeguards and support personnel, participates in search and rescue operations at sea, in rivers and lakes, in cooperation with the competent authorities.

The Disaster Response Department, with many years of experience, participates in search and rescue operations in urban environments, particularly in incidents requiring specialised operational response.

The First Aid Department also plays an important role, supporting rescue operations while also training volunteers in the management of emergency situations.

At the same time, the Research, Technology and Telecommunications Department utilises the specialised knowledge of H.R.T. members, developing and using technological applications and equipment that support search and rescue operations.

Finally, through its Social and Humanitarian Actions, the Hellenic Rescue Team collects, transports and distributes humanitarian aid to people affected by natural disasters and major crises, while also supporting families and people in need of assistance.
