vitrail

with Yanna Karayanni
art workshop for 12+ teenagers & adults in the context of the now women project
Thursday 10 August 7-9 pm

Inspired by the lightbox “Queen” by Yanna Karayanni, on show at the Anthos Library, participants will design their own composition and paint in on Plexiglas.

Starting from the technique of vitrail —or stained glass, more familiar in its plural form, vitraux— we shall employ rich colours which allow the light to pass through the surface and generate magical effects.

Although the most prevalent examples of vitrail are the stained windows of Europe’s medieval churches and castles, this form of painting originated in ancient Egypt and reached its peak in the Arab world before its introduction in Europe upon the Crusaders’ return.
