on the occasion of World Refugee Day - June 20, we read the book Silan's Box by Alkisti Halikia, with illustrations by Daniela Stamatiadi.
Silan has come from very far away. He has been living in his new country only for a little time. Every day he goes to school, and he has this box with which he never parts. No one knows what's in it; not his teacher, not his fellow students. He cannot reveal the contents, for he thinks they will not understand.
Silan's box carries no toys and no gifts, but something much more powerful... Will you open it?
This book by two awarded creators touches upon one of the key issues of our time in a sensitive, tender way, leaving us with a sweet feeling of optimism.
